ABOUT

Cotton Reel Entertainment is an independent production company through which James Cotton develops and produces film projects. Working across different filmmaking disciplines depending upon the project, James has written and directed short films, as well as producing, co-producing and line producing features.

As writer/director, James has most recently completed Daggers Drawn (2021) - a contained thriller that premiered at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and Birmingham Film Festival in the fall of 2021. Prior to this, James wrote and directed the multi award-winning kung fu comedy Tiger Claw (2019), and wrote Rule Number Three (2011), starring Nicholas Hoult and Imogen Poots.

On the producing side, James recently co-produced the thriller, Kindred (2020), starring Tamara Lawrance and Jack Lowden, and psychological horror,  Possum (2018), starring Sean Harris. James also line produced Tell It To The Bees (2018) starring Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger, as well as international co-production, Settlers (2021), starring Sofia Boutella and Jonny Lee Miller. James is therefore able to work on the more practical side of filmmaking and support projects outside of the company, as well as those creatively developed within it.

James is a graduate of the National Film and Television School in the UK, and has a combined array of experience that spans the development and production of feature films, live action shorts, animation and commercials, as well as sales and finance.

Cotton Reel Entertainment is a UK based independent production company run by James Cotton and Daphnée Hocquard, and develops projects for both film and television.

Both James and Daphnée are graduates of the National Film and Television School’s producing MA, and have a combined array of experience that spans the development and production of feature films, live action shorts, animation and commercials, as well as sales, finance and PR. 

Recently, James has written and directed Tiger Claw (2019), which marks his directorial debut and second writing credit following Rule Number Three (2012), which starred Nicholas Hoult and Imogen Poots. James has further projects he has written in the pipeline.

As well as producing through the company, James has also recently co-produced Possum (2018) starring Sean Harris and line produced Tell It To The Bees (2018) starring Anna Paquin, being able to work on the more practical side of filmmaking and support projects outside of the company.
